Well its been over a month since we took off for Tasmania, and I'm pleased to say that I have been working very hard to scrapbook my memories - it is so much easier when the details are clear in ones head.
We arrived into Launceston Airport at around 8.30pm where we picked up the car, and not having been there before did not have any idea where the hotel was - the girl at the desk told us to just follow the traffic into the city, that the Hotel was easy to find - and guess what, 'there was NO traffic', Launceston is very quiet on a Saturday night. Fortunately Justine had the GPS in her luggage and I think without 'NOAH' we would still be drifting around L.
Next day we did the'Cataract Gorge' cruise, very pretty, then the 'Tasmania Zoo' which is where we saw our first 'Devils', then off to Stanley on the north west coast.
It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to - just so wild, bloody freezing, and whilst we were there, blowing a gale.We went up to the lookout, which is where this pic was taken, had to wedge foot in door to get out of car, and could have thrown the luggage up in the air and it would have been delivered onto the first floor unit by the gale force winds. Next day went to local Seaquarium, saw Sea horses, all sorts of crabs and crayfish before they end up on a plate(definitely not red naturally), sharks, cuttlefish-odd looking creatures. Then off again to vist the Ashgrove cheese factory in Elizabeth Town, where they had dozens of painted cows.Purchased some cheese to take off to Cradle Mountain which was our next nights accomodation. On the way to Cradle M. we stopped off at 'The Promised Land' (actual town name) at 'Tazmasia' a miniature village and Maze.We arrived at Cradle Mountain late in the afternoon to a roaring fire at our snug log cabin in the wilderness - so beautiful and untouched by tourism at this group of cabins, unlike the huge resort we viewed whilst on a animal watching trip to see wombats, possums, paddymelon etc in the wild. We walked up to meet the bus for the tour at dusk, and just outside the reception was this huge wombat, and paddymelons-I have never seen wombats in the wild before - she was very aware that we were there and everytime Josh went near she growled. We saw lots of animals that night, even though it was raining and so very cold. A very restful nights sleep, then tomorrow we are off to Strachan. Have to return to Cradle Mountain for a longer stay.
More in next blog.
